Natural Landscape and Barefoot Lifestyle Create Harmony In Design and Function At New Pacifica Hotlistic Retreat & Spa
Open Vistas, Water Displays, Native Gardens, and Organic Elements Add to Luxury Retreat
The setting of the new Pacifica resort - on a pristine beach in Cabo Pacifica, a previously undeveloped enclave on the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas - clearly dictates the design of Pueblo Bonito's newest lifestyle hotel. The Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat & Spa was created as a luxurious oasis ensuring harmony in design and function. Utilizing bold vistas, water elements, lush gardens and sensory effects combined with natural colors and textures, Pacifica succeeds in offering guests a sense of seclusion and serenity.
The Approach
Guests enter the area of Cabo Pacifica along a high mountain road and slowly, miles of white beaches and the great Pacific Ocean come into view. Then the journey begins down a private road, through carved gates, past six serene reflecting pools and rich desert gardens gracing the resort's entrance.
Guests are greeted with the peaceful sound of water flowing over three 30 foot onyx walls. The dramatic entryway is wide and open, flanked by reflecting pools, offering wide paneless windows to the desert sands and blue ocean waters.
The ochre and sand exteriors blend with the natural environment, affording guests stunning views from every exposure. Indigenous wood treatments including slatted cedar pergolas accent the facades.
The Artwork
The works of two principal artists are featured at Pacifica. As guests enter, they will discover four intricate inlaid sculptures, created from broken black clay vases, by noted artist Mary Stuart, each expressing one of the seasons of the year from a different perspective. The changing treescapes symbolize the powers of time, growth and change.
In the men's and women's spas, guests will enjoy a series of original art panels created by renown artist Jan Hendrix., Hendrix, the Dutch-born who now resides in Mexico City, is known for transforming natural landscapes and elements into dramatic abstracts and shapes.
Interspaced amid the cool white flooring are borders and small mosaics created by local craftsmen using indigenous, polished, rocks and pebbles.
Water Under the Dome
Above the main reception area is a large glass dome made of 'intelligent' glass designed to let in the correct amount of sunlight and warmth as the time of year and time of day changes. Below the dome, a center fountain overflowing into an ongoing stream of water runs through the lobby, leading guests to the open sea veranda and its two-story panoramic view of the resort, its gardens and the ocean beyond. This is truly a place for guests to relax and unwind.
The Gardens, Pools and Beachside Environs
More than 400 varieties of cacti and local vegetation fill the free flowing gardens, structured garden circles, and water gardens surrounding Siempre, offering 24-hour dining. Plants are labeled with horticultural descriptions adding to the pleasures of a meandering sea breeze stroll. At night, the gardens come alive with warm glows from artfully placed lighting and an inviting firepot.
A separate Sand Garden invites guest to explore sensual pleasure from the ground up. The garden features spaces for guests' bare feet to explore: large and small smooth stones, fine and rough sands, cooling muds, running waters and other pleasures to delight the 'sole'.
Two swimming pools including a dramatic infinity pool offer cooling opportunities and soothing underwater music. Pools feature in-water lounge chairs and a circular swim up Aguabar. Adjacent to the pool area and along the seawall sits a large Jacuzzi.
A freestanding TeCasa surrounded by small bubbling fountains offers guests a respite from the outdoor heat and splashing waters. This quiet circular room, ideal for quiet relaxation and reflection, serves a selection of unusual teas and elixirs. Closer to the shoreline are the holistic facilities: yoga retreat, massage cabins, beachside cabanas, "rain showers," exercise sand mats, an authentic temazcal, a fire pit, and patio for late night stargazing and brandy sipping.
The Accommodations
All 154 rooms and 14 suite terraces offer fine native-crafted furniture and panoramic ocean views. Room décor features muted earthy tones with onyx accents: onyx inlays in the guestroom door offer light in the day and soft hues in the evening; a freestanding basin in the stylized bathroom; and built-in onyx lights for mood and convenience are built into the headboards. Miniature in-room cactus gardens and fountains bring natures beauty inside.
