Pueblo Bonito Hotels & Resorts
Mazatlán, Mexico (December 1, 2004) In 1987 Ernesto Coppel and Mark Kronemeyer together opened the first Pueblo Bonito resort, Pueblo Bonito Mazatlán. The property was the original Pueblo Bonito, a warm and welcoming resort, considered one of the most desirable hotels in Mazatlán because of its combination of modern luxury and old world charm. Its popularity required the addition of another horseshoe-shaped wing, designed around a central courtyard and pool.
The resort's enthusiastic acceptance prompted Coppel and Kronemeyer to build Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, which opened in 1991. The property is located in Cabo San Lucas on El Médano Beach overlooking the Sea of Cortez. Though maintaining the general ambiance of Mexican charm, its exterior architecture is distinguished by gleaming white walls, flower-accented balconies and deep blue tiled domes that blend harmoniously with sun and sea. The interior theme gives an appealing air of coziness, with pebbled mosaic insets in the lobby’s white marble floors, an impressive metal chandelier and colonial-style furnishings.
Ernesto Coppel subsequently built Pueblo Bonito Rosé, in Cabo San Lucas, Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay in Mazatlán, and Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, also in Cabo San Lucas. Coppel's newest project is the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat &Spa, which will open in April 2005. Another property in the Punta Mita area of Puerto Vallarta is scheduled for 2006.
As a tribute to Coppel's commitment to his country, Mexico's President Vicente Fox honored Coppel as 'Entrepreneur of the Year' in 2004 within the tourism category for his continued dedication, community involvement and the growth of Pueblo Bonito Hotels & Resorts.
Ernesto Coppel and Pueblo Bonito Hotels & Resorts have provided many communities with roads, schools, housing, bus transportation, jobs and as well as improving environmental development while minimizing their impact on ecosystems.
All Chambers of Commerce in México nominated candidates for this award. Ernesto Coppel was nominated by the Baja State and Sinaloa State (Mazatlán). Award recipients were determined by an election.
