Discover Something New at Gran Acuario Mazatlán

The Gran Acuario Mazatlán (GAM) raised the bar on its aquatic encounters with two thrilling new experiences: snorkeling and diving in the massive ocean tank.

Imagine swimming alongside a dazzling array of fish, graceful rays, and even majestic sharks. At GAM, this dream becomes a reality thanks to their meticulously designed program, offering a safe and unforgettable encounter with the wonders of the deep.

Both the snorkeling and diving activities are led by a team of professional aquarists who ensure a controlled environment for a limited number of participants. Before diving in, you'll receive a comprehensive briefing on the experience and safety protocols.

Open to anyone over 12 years old, the snorkeling experience allows you to explore the marine life in the ocean tank. You don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer for this leisurely experience. Life jackets are provided, and you'll be under the watchful eyes of the GAM divers throughout your 15-minute adventure.

The breathtaking 740,000-gallon tank is home to a diverse array of fish. Glide alongside gentle lemon sharks, marvel at the sudden movements of schooling fish, and follow the graceful spotted rays and stingrays as they soar through the water. This immersive experience allows you to observe these incredible creatures in a controlled habitat, offering a unique perspective on their behavior.

The snorkeling experience includes all the necessary equipment, with sessions running several times daily, you can easily fit this aquatic adventure into your day at GAM.

For certified divers, there’s an additional option. The diving experience offers an even more profound connection with the creatures at GAM. Similar to snorkeling, this program takes place in the massive ocean tank, but as a diver, you’ll have access to the depths as well. This experience also includes all the necessary equipment, including a wetsuit and a diving tank.

From briefing and equipment fitting to swimming with the sharks and other fish, the entire experience lasts approximately 60 minutes.

The Gran Acuario Mazatlán is a world-class aquatic research and educational facility that celebrates the extraordinary biodiversity of the Sea of Cortez. This aquarium of “The Aquarium of the World,” — as renowned oceanographer Jacques Cousteau famously dubbed the Sea of Cortez — boasts nearly a million and a half gallons of saltwater across its various exhibits and houses more than 250 species. From the moment you step inside, you’ll encounter carefully crafted habitats designed to showcase multiple ecological systems, including coral reefs, coasts, the deep ocean, and more.

In addition to the new experiences mentioned above, the facility also offers other activities, including feeding the rays and guitarfish in Ray Bay, visiting and interacting with the Humboldt Penguins, and an educational experience with the sea lions.

Whether you choose to participate in these activities and experiences or not, the Gran Acuario Mazatlán guarantees an unforgettable encounter with the Sea of Cortez’s most fascinating creatures. Check granacuario.com for the most up-to-date information on ticket prices and times. And don’t forget that Pueblo Bonito’s All-Inclusive package includes a ticket to the aquarium for guests of the Mazatlán resorts.
