From Carnival to Culture: Mazatlán’s Top 2025 Events

A city bursting with history, culture, and stunning Pacific views, Mazatlán is offering an unforgettable lineup of events throughout 2025. Whether you're drawn to lively street celebrations, thrilling sports, or deep-rooted traditional activities, there's something for every side of your personality.

It all begins in late February with Mazatlán Carnival, one of Mexico’s largest and most vibrant celebrations, running from February 27 to March 4. Since 1898, this six-day festival has delighted visitors with lively parades, larger-than-life floats, vibrant street parties, and dazzling fireworks displays that light up the Malecón. The crowning of the Carnival Queen, the Naval Combat fireworks show, and the performances by renowned Mexican and international artists make this an exhilarating event. With the 2025 theme, “La Perla,” the festival is set to reveal a stunning tribute to the city’s coastal heritage.

As winter gives way to spring, the city welcomes an influx of visitors for Spring Break and Easter Week throughout March and April. Beaches become gathering spots where music fills the air, and the city’s nightlife scene reaches its annual crescendo. That said, there are always little coves where peace and tranquility reign supreme. Whether you’re looking for a high-octane party atmosphere or a laid-back beach getaway, this season is what you make it.

A few weeks later, the energy shifts from the shoreline to the streets as Mazatlán International Motorcycle Week rolls into town from April 23-26. Thousands of bike enthusiasts from around the world take part in roaring parades along the Malecón. Freestyle stunt shows, bike expos, and live concerts make this event a spectacular mix of high-powered engines, scenic coastal rides, and nonstop entertainment with a coastal breeze.

By the time November arrives, the city takes on a more soulful and reflective tone as Mazatlán prepares for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). In the days leading up to November 2, the streets fill with candlelit processions. People set up intricate altars (ofrendas) dedicated to their loved ones and cultural performances that honor those who have passed fill the schedule. While many cities in Mexico observe this tradition with quiet reverence, Mazatlán adds its own signature touch with brass bands and parades. It’s this signature blend of solemn reverence and celebration of life that makes this take on the holiday unlike anywhere else in the country.

Not long after, the cooling fall temperatures make the city ideal for race season, and Mazatlán welcomes thousands of runners for the Gran Maratón del Pacífico in December. This high-profile run draws competitors from all over the world who come to compete while enjoying the scenic course that winds through coastal roads and historic streets. Enjoy live music and delicious street food as you cheer on the runners along the route.

Of course, Mazatlán’s cultural heartbeat isn’t limited to major festivals and marquee events. From October to December, the Festival Cultural Mazatlán sees renowned musicians, dancers, and theater performers from across Mexico and beyond come to the city to showcase their talents. On any given night, you might find a classical concert inside the historic Angela Peralta Theater, a live mariachi band playing in the plaza, or a cutting-edge art exhibit in one of the many galleries across the city.
