Fundraising Gala at New Aquarium to Benefit LCF Social Assistance Center

Next month, The Letty Coppel Foundation will host a gala dinner at the new Gran Acuario in Mazatlán. Called “Wonders of the Ocean”, the formal charity event will take place Thursday, July 27th. For $95 UDS a person, you get cocktails, dinner, and live music. But it’s what you give that matters most, as all proceeds will support the construction of a new social assistance center in Mazatlán, that in time, will replace the existing center which opened in 2018.

As the first private, entirely free social assistance center in Mazatlán, the Letty Coppel Foundation has already provided much needed services to children, the elderly, the unemployed, and entire families in need. Its employment-driven programs include entrepreneurial opportunities in jewelry-making, embroidery, and dressmaking, as well as dance and exercise classes for seniors, a homework club for children struggling in school, and women empowerment workshops. The center also offers psychological counseling, physical therapy, and comprehensive coaching about how to lead a healthy life. The new Mazatlan center that the organization is raising funds for will be an even larger facility and will offer additional services, mirroring those provided at the center in Cabo.

The Letty Coppel Foundation designates significant resources to community development initiatives, including mobile medical care, summer workshops, and resources for women who are victims of violence. Finally, in an effort to preserve and promote local culture and traditions, the Letty Coppel Foundation has initiated projects to do everything from protecting sea turtles to rehabbing Los Cabos’ Faro Viejo.

By hosting next month’s gala at the brand-new aquarium, the organization will give guests a first look at the incredible interior. Boasting the largest floor plan in Latin America, the aquarium will house some 260 marine species and have a 2.8-million-liter main exhibition tank with a window that is 13 meters tall by 7 meters wide. Overall, its exhibition tanks will hold some 4.7 million liters of water, plus 200 million liters in its large lake. Among the marine animals are 36 species of mammals, 31 cetaceans, five of the seven global species of sea turtles, as well as sharks, jellyfish, and manta rays.

It’s a win-win; experience the sheer wonder of our underwater world and at the same time support a Foundation that benefits Pueblo Bonito’s valued neighbors and communities.
