The Best Kept Secrets of Mazatlán
Sometimes secrets are simply too good to keep. So this month, we’ve decided to share with you four of our favorite activities that you aren’t likely to find in any tour books and that you really must try before leaving Mazatlán. Come see what all the fuss is about!
Ten Islands Expedition - Seeing the Sinaloa islands from shore is one thing; getting up close and personal is another. And you can’t do it alone. By embarking on a half-day Ten Islands Expedition, however, you’ll be able to visit some of our most photographed islands and islets and spot their resident marine creatures along the way. Leave your footprints on the spectacular beaches many travelers miss, and snap unforgettable photos as your guide teaches you about the history and geology of each location. Keep a look-out for gulls, frigates, ducks, dolphins, turtles, stingrays, and more as you go. To get there, you and your group will hop aboard a high-performance semi-rigid boat and carve a path across the bay. Morning tours afford group members the opportunity to snorkel. Afternoon tours enjoy a beautiful sunset.
New Aquarium in Mazatlan- Long regarded as the “Aquarium of the World”, the Sea of Cortez teems with an incredibly diverse array of marine life, calm waters, pristine beaches, and unique geology both in and out of the water. As such, the protected UNESCO World Heritage site attracts divers from all over the world. But now the jewels of the sea will be available to everyone, with or without a wetsuit, at the Sea of Cortez Aquarium, due to open in Mazatlán this September. Still very much in its construction phase, the museum promises to bring the sea to life for those who visit the area, even if diving isn’t possible. The multi-million-dollar project will be the largest aquarium in Latin-America.
Whale Watching - December through March is the best time of year for whale watching off the Pacific coast of Mexico, so book a tour with any one of the local outfits and enjoy your adventure of a lifetime. You’ll join the region’s top marine biologists, ecologists, and naturalists as they share their knowledge about the local environment and the whales’ ecology and behavior. When spotting a whale, you’ll likely catch them spouting water, breaching the water or slapping their tails while playing or fighting. This is breeding season in the Mexican Pacific so there’s a lot of activity just under the surface. If you’re lucky, you may find females nursing their calves, or hear the males’ haunting mating songs. Talk to our concierge for advice when booking your tour.
Mazatlán Jazz Festival - Save the date! The Mazatlán Jazz Festival is back and scheduled for October 7th through 10th. Why tell you now? So you have plenty of time to book your stay with us and look forward to everything the festival has to offer. This year’s star-studded lineup includes Jackiem Joyner, DW3, Eric Darius, and more. Some are calling it the most sophisticated jazz event of the year, and we here at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay Resort in Mazatlán can’t help but agree. For a swinging good time, book your stay with us today and fill your soul with the deepest tenor sax and loftiest ivory trills.
