Upcoming Fishing Tournaments in Cabo

If you came to Los Cabos with plans for more than just a relaxing vacation, we wouldn’t be surprised. Thousands of people visit the shores of Los Cabos for the love of fishing instead. And one look at the stacked fall tournament schedule off the coast of Cabo reveals why now is the time to make plans to do just that. Book your stay at any of Pueblo Bonito’s properties in Los Cabos so you can watch the pros reel in a winner, or even compete yourself, during one of this season’s upcoming tournaments.

Los Cabos is one of the best places in the world to catch large numbers of tuna, Mahi-mahi, black and blue marlin, swordfish, and sailfish. That’s why each fall, Los Cabos hosts five major fishing tournaments: the Billfish Tournament in October, Cabo Tuna Jackpot in November, and three Bisbee’s Circuit Tournaments: The East Cape (which took place in August), and the Los Cabos Offshore and Bisbee Black and Blue tournaments, taking place in October. Four of these tournaments are still to come this year, and all offer excellent opportunities to enjoy fabulous Los Cabos.

It’s well known amongst fisherwomen and men, the toughest fighting fish are those with a snout at the tip, such as sailfish and marlin. As the name suggests, the Los Cabos Billfish fishing tournament—regarded as the “richest offshore fishing tournament”—focuses on fishing for these sea giants but also offers prizes for dorado, wahoo, and tuna. This year, the Billfish tournament will be held October 16th through 20th.

The Bisbee Los Cabos Offshore fishing tournament rewards teams that capture the largest specimens of marlin, tuna, and dorado. There are also prizes for teams that make more catches and releases and additional jackpot prizes for participants who wish to participate this way. This year's edition will take place from the 20th to the 23rd of October.

For more than 30 years, Bisbee's Black & Blue tournaments have been among the biggest draws for sport fishing off the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. They’re held in Cabo San Lucas every October, including this year from the 25th to the 29th. Bisbee Black and Blue attracts some of the world's most competitive fisherwomen and men, all vying for the four-million-dollar cash prize by capturing the largest black, blue, and striped marlin.

The Cabo Tuna Jackpot tournament will be held November 2nd through 5th at the marina in Cabo San Lucas. In its last edition, there were nearly a million and a half dollars awarded in prizes. Although the primary target of this fishing tournament is the tuna fish, there are also prizes for the largest Wahoo and Dorado. Unlike other tournaments where only members of the fishing team are allowed on board, up to two guests can accompany competitors on the hunt for prize-winning tuna.

The exclusive nature of these tournaments doesn’t mean you can’t still take part in the scenery if you don’t compete. If you’d like to go fishing during your Los Cabos vacation—even if you’ve never fished before—there are many charter boats with excellent captains that will gladly take you to some of the best spots in Los Cabos and offer their best tips to get a bite on the line. So come with your whole family and enjoy the world of competitive sport fishingfrom the boat, or the shorelineand reel in an unforgettable vacation!
