Witness the Miracle of Life: Sea Turtle Season is Back

Los Cabos is a haven for sun-seekers, adventure enthusiasts, and nature lovers. But from late July to mid-December, the magic extends beyond the stunning beaches and vibrant coral reefs. This period marks the annual sea turtle nesting season, a time when these magnificent creatures return to the shores they knew as hatchlings, perpetuating a cycle that has endured for millions of years.

At Pueblo Bonito, we take immense pride in our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. A key pillar of this commitment is our active participation in sea turtle conservation. We believe protecting these gentle giants is not just about preserving these beautiful species but safeguarding the delicate balance of the ecosystems they inhabit.

As the summer sun warms the Pacific, female turtles embark on an incredible journey. Guided by an ancient compass we don’t yet understand, they navigate vast distances to return to the beaches where they hatched decades earlier. Here, under the cloak of darkness, the giant females meticulously excavate nests in the soft sand, depositing clutches of around 100 eggs before returning to the sea.

These precious eggs incubate for approximately 60 days. Then, a symphony of nature unfolds as tiny flippers scratch at the sand from within. One by one, the hatchlings emerge — determined bundles of energy with a single, powerful instinct: to reach the ocean waters.

It’s this critical stage in the sea turtle's life cycle that is most fraught with danger. Predators lurk on land and in the water, waiting to snatch up the vulnerable hatchlings. This is where Pueblo Bonito's conservation program steps in. We work tirelessly to identify nesting sites, carefully relocating nests to protected areas away from predation and human interference.

Our dedicated team closely monitors these relocated nests, meticulously recording data and ensuring optimal incubation conditions. When the time comes for hatching, Pueblo Bonito guests have the unique opportunity to participate in a truly unforgettable experience: releasing the hatchlings so they can safely make their way toward the rolling surf.

Witnessing these hatchlings, barely the size of a ping pong ball, take off on their own into the vast ocean is a humbling and awe-inspiring experience. It’s a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect the magnificent creatures all across our planet and the ecosystems we share with them.

Our commitment to sea turtle conservation extends beyond the hatchling release program. We educate guests on the important role these creatures play and the threats they face. We also work diligently to minimize our own environmental footprint and promote sustainable practices throughout our resorts.

By choosing Pueblo Bonito for your Los Cabos vacation, you're not just opting to take a luxurious getaway; you're choosing to be part of something bigger. You're partnering with a resort that actively works to preserve the natural wonders that make Los Cabos such a special place.
